Underwriter availability app
introduction
At Loyd’s Market in London, hundreds of specialty insurance policies are bound every day between brokers and underwriters. Insuring skyscrapers, boats, airplanes and other specialty high value assets requires finding the insurance companies with the right underwriting experience. Brit Insurance, has a box at Lloyd’s Market for their underwriters, where brokers can approach them to write insurance, but the right underwriters are not always at their Lloyd’s Market “box” when brokers need them. To avoid a loss of business and frustrated brokers, Brit asked the FairVentures Lab team to help them create an app concept to solve this problem.
Problem
How might we help brokers find and speak to the right underwriter at Brit, when they’re not at the box.
How might we help underwriters avoid lost business as a result of not being at the Lloyd’s Market box at the right time.
Solution
The Brit app provided a way for brokers to find the right underwriter at Brit through a class and underwriter search and browse features. It also allowed the broker to see the box schedule of Brit underwriters and contact them to arrange times to meet for business if they currently weren’t at the box.
USER RESEARCH - REMOTE INTERVIEWS
To better understand the interaction and workflow between Lloyd’s Market broker and Brit underwriters we conducted remote interviews. The result was a journey map showing the steps and interactions when a client requires a new insurance policy and brokers work to find underwriters that are able to write the insurance.
Actor-task map outlining process where availability of the underwriter is needed.
SITE VISIT - DESIGN SPRINT
During the site visit, the FairVentures Lab team of 3 (Product Manager, Product Designer, Software Developer) facilitated a design sprint with the Brit team of 6. This led to a shared understanding of the goals for the app, the key scenarios for which the app would be used and a set of key ideas for prototyping.
